With your help, we’re going to eliminate preventable drowning in Vietnam
Every year, over 2,000 children in Vietnam succumb to drowning. That’s over five young lives lost each day, a truly preventable tragedy.
Swim for Life Vietnam was born out of a dire need to address Vietnam’s high drowning rates. We empower communities by teaching survival swimming to school-aged children and informing parents and community members about the risks of child drowning.
Saving Lives
Swim for Life Vietnam, launched by Golden West Humanitarian Foundation, arose from the urgent need to address Vietnam’s high drowning rates.
We empower communities in Quang Binh Province and beyond by teaching survival swimming to children, and raising awareness of the issue in local communities. Through the dedication and generosity of our supporters, we have already made substantial progress; but the journey continues.
The Silent Epidemic
Vietnam’s Ministry of Health reports 35 drowning fatalities daily within the 5 – 14-year-old demographic, averaging 2,000 deaths annually. Tragically, 95% of children aged four and above who succumbed to drowning lacked basic swimming skills.
Survival swimming instruction stands out as the most potent and cost-effective approach to mitigating childhood drownings.
Empowerment Through Education
We are committed to turning the tide against this epidemic. Through your support, we’ve built and advocated for more community pools, trained instructors, and taught over 15,280 children to swim safely in Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces. We instil confidence, ensuring every child can enjoy the water safely.
The ripple effect of our work extends to other family members and other parts of the community – empowering children through our survival swim classes is saving lives.
